Khader (George) Husary
March 25, 1945 – Feb 3, 2020
My dad taught me how to run a business, he also taught me the love of family. Best of all he taught me honesty, integrity and kindness. In memory of my dad, Husary Olive Oil will donate 25% of profits to charity.
How We Started
In 2009 on a trip to Palestine, I visited family in Jerusalem. After touring a few historical and spiritual sites my family and I visited the Mount Of Olives, Garden of Gethsemane. As I stood there amongst these ancient olive trees, something struck me, and I felt a connection! Something told me that I had to come home to California and plant as many olive trees as I could. I fell in love with everything to do with olives from then on.
Later, I came to realize several facts that made planting olive trees here in California all the more meaningful to me. First, I
learned that I wasn’t the first in my family to feel this way about olives. In fact, unbeknownst to me, the Husary family had been growing olives for years. Going as far back as any relative of mine could remember. Second I began to learn just how important the olive tree is to the Palestinian people. Olive trees are a symbol of freedom, and represent a deep connection to the soil on which they are grown. Olive trees are a big part of what gives Palestinians their identity. When I first planted my grove, I planted Mediterranean varieties, from Spain, Italy, and Greece. Sadly, I couldn’t find Palestinian trees. But I was determined to find the varieties that are in the oldest olive groves in the world. With the help of UC Davis I was able to get my hands on the Nabali and Souri varieties; the two varieties that we now sell at our nursery. And as these trees mature, they will be the primary source of Husary Olive Oil.
Anyone can import olive oil, but what we have done at Husary Olive Oil is import the Palestinian identity and the ancient trees found in the holy land for centuries, and will make Palestinian olive oil here in Northern California. Thereby bringing the freshest Palestinian olive oil here to our customers.
